Sponsor | Recordgrooves | May 8, 11:17am | I had mine connected wireless for a few hours this mourning (ha), then I did a reboot...
What a pain in the ass...
I am sure that a more experienced user could dash right through it, no prob.
BTW, that PC Linux sure does look puurdy. |

you can install kde if you wnat , then choose the window manager at login (gnome , kde , etc...) |

I too am still very new to linux... and bearly can get around in most distros but here my thoughts:
I have found you have to try out differnt linux distros: based on your own style and machine configuration . Maybe pclinux08 , will have better Wireless Support for RecodGroves Pc. Thats why you have to keep trying..until you find a good fit for your level of Linux Knowlege , fav style and whats best for your hardware.
How to Choose a Linux Distribution |
polishlinux.org » Distro chooser
--------------------------------
Sometimes- You onboard Sound or Creative Sound Cards Just dont work (No Xfi)
-Sometimes codecs don't work right-Theres Sound but no video is gone or Video is choppy or words dont match the actors lip??
-Other times Drives will not stay mounted (ntfs Hell)
-Sometimes Ati drivers dont play right.....you just don know?
------------------------------------
You do not know until you try right :)
Thus live cds are a good thing...no?
I have tried a dozen or so linux distros and somehow always bouncing between Redhat, pclos and some form of ubuntu.
I too am still very new to linux...Which Linux Distribution is for Me?
.hope this helps :) |

| olegnep | May 9, 3:09pm | this is a good general quiz -zegeniestudios.net/ldc/ [zegeniestudios.net/ldc/]
But no matter what distros i try i always come back to Ubuntu at the end of the day. I just installed ubuntu 8.04 with WUBI on my desktop (finally). It (thanks to preload) is astronomically fast , when i open openoffice it takes 1.8 seconds , firefox takes 1.9 cold and 1.2 warm. everything is so fast , i have never has a computer that was this fast or responsive before. just goes to show you Linux + beast computer = insane speed , Also when it started up it offered to config my 8800gt for me , i told it to , restarted and bammo - 2300 average fps on compiz fusion and 1100 while turning the cube.
Everything else worked without a peep:) |

| Sponsor | bottletop | May 17, 4:39pm | | Hello,I am new here and new to Linux too. I installed Wubi/ubuntu 8.04 by a straight download 4 days ago(no disk involved)onto my MSI M670 AMD Sempron Laptop with Vista preloaded. I just cannot believe how fast it is! The Vista side is so,so slow.My wireless connection, internet and local file sharing worked without any input from me. Even my 4gb pen drive which does not work on Vista works well and loading music file from it is very fast. Try it. I am pleased I did. |

| Sponsor | PinGUY | May 17, 5:18pm | I am loving 8.04, I did an upgrade from 7.10 and it went well apart from the sound side but fixed that by doing this, the only problem I am having is I can't choose an emerald theme but it's not a big deal as the theme in use goes well with my theme anyway, and had to re-name some of the icons in my icon theme so they would work.
I do love that you can now pre-view an mp3 by hovering over it.
I am probably going to leave it to after the summer but I am going to build another Ubuntu PCB Edition OS based from 8.04 as its such a good OS and will be easy to work with. |

| Sponsor | bottletop | May 18, 3:36am | | Re 16 and hovering on mp3. I thought it was some kind of bug first. What a good idea. My only problem currently is that I can,t listen to BBC radio. I cannot get `dreadedŽRealPlayer to work and I have not mastered how to drop codes into files yet. The other thing I am amazed with is the ability to use my 4gb pen drive. It wonŽt work in Vista. At first I thought maybe you guys had skipped a few releases, but that's weird if you didn't have the feature in 7.10! |
